Hello, we are Ross Metals!
The scrap metal industry has seen vast changes since the days of the ‘rag and bone man’. The industry is now more mainstream, and well regulated aiding the global focus on recycling and the environment which is something that the Ross family have focused on for generations, making them one of the leading, scrap metal yards in Leeds.
Established in 1930 by Ernest Ross, then known as ‘Rag Trade’, the business focused on the collection and re-sale of glass jars and bottles, rags and flock with customers including Burtons, Hepworths & Taylors. After the war the business diversified and began trading in air raid shelters and scrap metal.
In 1980 Ernest’s son Albert took over. Albert steered the business through a recession working tirelessly to ensure the business remained for future generations.
After his retirement in 2002, Albert’s son Wayne took over the reins. It was at this stage that Ross Metals was formed, along with the addition of directors who were appointed to steer the business forward. With over 35 years experience within the business, Wayne continued to ensure the level of service customers receive was second to none. Investment was made in new machinery and welfare facilities at the site in Leeds.
Wayne retired in 2022, with his youngest son Chris taking the reins. As the fourth generation of the Ross family, Chris is proud to continue running the business in the same traditions as those before him.
